A few days earlier on Friday, however, the Topeka Capitol Journal broke the news that Kobach’s campaign has been accused of employing three white supremacists, that we know of:

Kris Kobach’s gubernatorial campaign employs three men identified as members of a white nationalist group by two political consultants who have worked with Republicans in Kansas.

[…] The consultants in early July independently named the three men, all in their early 20s, as members of American Heritage Initiative, a splinter of Identity Evropa, which the Southern Poverty Law Center describes as as a campus-based white supremacy group that builds community from shared racial identity.

Kobach himself has a history of associating with white supremacists, and is a paid columnist at Breitbart, a right-wing website that has become a major platform for white nationalists.

Kobach also headed Trump’s failed voter suppression commission, which has been working to systematically disenfranchise minority voters.

Some now suggest that his journey as an impassioned evangelist for the right, which eventually landed him a West Wing office, began as a rebellion against Santa Monica’s bleeding heart, multiculturalist and heavily Jewish left.

News reports identify Miller, 31, as a principal author of Trump’s draconian immigration measures, including the executive order the president signed in late January targeting immigrants from Muslim-majority countries. These politics are generally reviled in the liberal circles of his Jewish upbringing — such as at Beth Shir Shalom, where he went to Hebrew school, and which describes itself online as a “Progressive Reform Synagogue,” and at The Santa Monica Synagogue, a Reform temple where he was confirmed in 10th grade.

Robert Hutton // Boris Johnson Told to Apologize for Mocking Women Who Wear Burqa – Bloomberg – Former U.K. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has been told to apologize after writing that the burqa, the Muslim garment that conceals a woman’s face and body, made wearers look like bank robbers and letter boxes.

Johnson used his weekly column in the Telegraph newspaper on Monday to argue against a ban on the burqa, as implemented by Denmark, France and Austria, saying people should be free to choose their own dress. But he mocked the clothing, saying it was “weird and bullying to expect women to cover their faces.”

Conservative Party Chairman Brandon Lewis said Tuesday that he had asked Johnson to apologize, though didn’t say if there would be any sanctions if the request was ignored. Johnson’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Jon Terbush // Rand Paul’s troubling ties to racists – Jack Hunter, Paul’s director of new media, who also co-wrote Paul’s 2011 book The Tea Party Goes to Washington, is a former radio shock jock and former member of a neo-Confederate organization, according to a report in the Washington Free Beacon. Hunter is the second Paul staffer to have his troublesome views on racial issues revealed.

In the decade before he joined Paul’s campaign, Hunter provided conservative commentary on the radio and on his website under the guise of his pseudonymous Southern character. In a 2004 article posted to his site and uncovered by the Free Beacon, titled “John Wilkes Booth Was Right,” Hunter argued that “Wilkes Booth’s heart was in the right place,” and that Lincoln was, in fact, “one of the worst figures in American history.”

Here’s how Hunter described the Civil War:

Imagine you entered into an agreement with a friend. Your friend then decides to gain the upper hand at your expense. For your own good, you decide to back out and go your own way. But instead of letting bygones be bygones, your friend burns your house down, rapes your sister and forces you to re-enter the agreement at gun point. And here he is discussing race in another piece, called “Are White People Out of Style?”:

Hispanics indulge in an even more nationalistic form of racial identity by flying Mexican flags, listening to a foreign music that both black and white Americans have never even heard of, and turning everywhere they settle into northern outposts of their Mexican homeland.

And then there are white people. Not only are whites not afforded the same right to celebrate their own cultural identity – but anything that is considered “too white” is immediately suspect. Nobody talks about rap music being “too black.” No one would dare suggest that the agricultural work force is “too Hispanic.” But let something like NASCAR, country music or the Republican party become patronized mainly by white Americans, and you can bet your ass someone is going to scream racism. Dana Milbank // Mueller finally proves it: Hillary Clinton is guilty! – The Washington Post – The evidence of Clinton’s alleged “collusion” with Russia? She and the Democrats hired an opposition-research firm that wrote a dossier on, um, Trump’s collusion with Russia. She also colluded with Russia by being secretary of state at a time when another arm of the U.S. government approved a uranium deal with a Russian-owned company that had given money to her husband and his foundation.

Both of these are about as compelling as saying the guilty plea entered by Papadopoulos is further evidence of Clinton’s collusion with Russia because “George Papadopoulos” sounds like “George Stephanopoulos,” who once worked for Bill Clinton, who is married to Hillary Clinton.

By Trump’s new standard, “collusion” now covers not just Russia’s election interference but anything that has to do with Russia done by anybody at any time for any reason. If that’s the rule, there is indeed plenty of evidence that Clinton colluded with Russia. She has visited Russia often, spoken with Russians and even tried to reset relations with Russia. I’d bet she has also watched Russian ballet and read Russian novels.
