Chad Sokol // Kootenai County GOP urges feds to let Austrian nationalist into U.S. to marry alt-right YouTube pundit | The Spokesman-Review
https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2019/apr/27/kootenai-county-gop-urges-feds-to-let-austrian-nat/ // The Kootenai County Republican Central Committee unanimously passed a resolution Thursday urging the federal government to reinstate travel privileges for a leader of an Austrian nationalist movement who planned to marry his fiancée, an alt-right YouTube pundit, in Idaho this summer.
Martin Sellner, a leader of Generation Identity who campaigns against Islam and mass immigration, said last month that U.S. authorities had canceled his Electronic System for Travel Authorization, a waiver that allows citizens of some countries to enter the United States for brief periods without a visa.
That followed a raid in which Austrian authorities seized electronic devices belonging to Sellner and his American fiancée, Brittany Pettibone, who lives in Post Falls but was visiting Sellner at the time.

Days after a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville left one anti-racist protester dead, President Trump made a now- infamous comment about the tragedy.
“You had some very bad people in that group,” he said, seemingly referring to the white nationalists who chanted, among other things, “Jews will not replace us.” “But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.”
That comment was met with near-unanimous condemnation at the time, and it continues to be referenced by the president’s critics. Most recently, former vice president Joe Biden cited Trump’s comments in his campaign launch video as evidence the president was unfit for office.

Anne Helen Petersen // “Many of the most powerful people in political history never held office. Instead, they had money, or they had strategy. Regan has both. As chairman of the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee (KCRCC), he oversees the political maneuvers of the only party that matters in the state’s third-largest county. He is the chairman of the board of the Idaho Freedom Foundation, which grades state legislators on their votes and acts as a de facto conservative policing service. He’s an inventor. He’s very good at enforcing Robert’s Rules of Order. He’s a major donor to PACs that have worked, somewhat surreptitiously, to influence local elections.“Brent Regan is a real patriot,” a member of the KCRCC told me. “That movie, The Patriot, Brent is like that Mel Gibson character to me. He’s got the IQ and the common sense — he’s the smartest man I’ve ever known.”And like so many others currently involved in North Idaho politics, Regan’s a California transplant: one of thousands of ex–LAPD officers, doomsday preppers, “traditionalist” Catholics, and far-right evangelicals who’ve flocked to the white, conservative utopia of North Idaho over the last 20 years, working to remake the Republican Party in their own image. Before, they were called libertarians and constitutionalists, or called nothing at all, because there was no political group conservative enough to represent their beliefs. But after the 2008 election of President Obama, they emerged, consolidated power, and began operating under a simple principle: It’s easier to take over a political party than to start one of your own.” – <https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/annehelenpetersen/wackadoodles-north-idaho>

Robert Salonga // “SUNNYVALE — A driver who used his car to intentionally run down pedestrians earlier this week apparently was targeting a family he thought was Muslim, police said Friday at a news conference held shortly after the suspect in the attack was arraigned in court.
Police are now treating the crash as a hate crime. They said they believe the driver, Isaiah Joel Peoples, targeted the family, believed to be South Asian, purely based on their appearance. Three family members — the father, a 13-year-old daughter and her 9-year-old brother — were among the eight people injured in the crash. The daughter was the most severely hurt. She is in a coma and fighting for her life, police said.
“New evidence shows that the defendant intentionally targeted the victims based on their race, and his belief that they were of the Muslim faith,” Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Chief Phan Ngo said. He declined to say whether Peoples, 34, had followed the family or whether his attack was a spur-of-the-moment decision.” – <https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/04/26/teen-girl-clings-to-life-as-sunnyvale-crash-driver-set-for-arraignment/>

Jason Wilson // In the last few months however, a new strategy has arise within the Alt-Right that now seems to be taking shape. In late February, a neo-Nazi podcast show hosted by Mike “Enoch” Peinovich (best known for having both an ex-wife who is Jewish and for selling oven mitts in an effort to make light of the Holocaust) and Eric Striker (a notoriously racist contributor to the neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer), recorded a podcast conversation with “Blackstone,” an attorney. The title of the podcast, now on YouTube is Testudo Legal Defense Network.

Stephen Miller has reportedly taken ‘unprecedented steps’ to reveal immigrants’ personal information – Three current and former Department of Homeland Security officials told Politico Miller began calling Immigration and Customs Enforcement shortly after President Trump took office in 2017. He would reportedly insist that the agency include more details, including full names and pending criminal charges, in press releases about immigrants ICE apprehend.
Officials reportedly said nothing of the sort had ever been done before: unless the individuals had been convicted or charged, releasing such information would constitute a breach of personal privacy. But in 2017, an executive order issued by Trump concerning public safety contained a provision which excluded non-U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents from such privacy protections.

Joseph Cox // This Is How Twitter Blocks Far-Right Tweets in Germany – Motherboard – Motherboard viewed Golding’s profile from IP addresses both within and outside Germany. From a desktop computer, none of Golding’s profile was visible, instead replaced with the mentioned withheld message. On a mobile client, those connecting from Germany can still see the profile itself, but all of the account’s tweets have been replaced with a disclaimer. It is also seemingly not possible to use Twitter’s search function to find Golding’s tweets.
Golding appears to post some misleading or false content, including around events in Germany. In April, Golding shared a video that he alleged showed Muslims celebrating a recent terror attack in Paris. The video, however, was of Pakistani cricket fans basking in their World Cup victory.

“On April 20, the FBI arrested Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 69, the leader of the United Constitutional Patriots (UCP), on charges of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. The arrest came after the UCP posted a series of videos online showing camouflaged men surrounding hundreds of migrants in the New Mexico desert.
The New York Times reported that Hopkins, who also goes by the name Johnny Horton Jr., came under FBI scrutiny in 2017 after federal agents received information that his group was training to assassinate President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and George Soros.
The SPLC’s Intelligence Project has been tracking the antigovernment extremist movement for nearly three decades and has been monitoring the activities of the UCP since late 2018.” – <https://www.splcenter.org/news/2019/04/23/splc-answers-questions-about-antigovernment-extremists-who-detain-migrants-along-us-mexico#.XMI_QWTaO31.twitter>

Poway Synagogue Shooting: One Dead, Three Injured in Shooting at Synagogue Chabad of Poway, Suspect in Custody – A 19-year-old man armed with an assault rifle walked into a suburban San Diego synagogue Saturday morning and opened fire, killing one person and injuring three others, including a child, in a mass shooting that the mayor cast as a “hate crime.”
The San Diego Sheriff’s Office said that John Earnest of San Diego has been arrested in connection with the shooting at the Chabad of Poway and don’t believe there are any other suspects. Police said he has no prior contact with police and was being questioned by local detectives and local FBI agents Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff William Gore said authorities were looking into a rambling, multi-page manifesto that was published minutes before the shooting by a person with the same name, in which the writer claimed Jews were destroying whites, to determine if it offered any clues as to a motive for the attack. // Audrey McNamara, Pilar Melendez, Justin Miller, Pervaiz Shallwani

Andrew Johnson // “Local and federal law enforcement launched an investigation into an alleged arson attack at an Escondido, California, mosque early Sunday morning, where the suspect left behind a note referencing the terrorist attacks at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, that killed 50 worshippers. The fire broke out at 3:15 a.m. at Dar-ul-Arqam in what authorities are investigating as arson and a hate crime. “If its an arson, it’s possibly a hate crime as well,” Escondido Police Department (EPD) Lt. Chris Lick said.Yusef Miller, a member of the Muslim community in Escondido, said it was fortunate the fire happened before the early morning prayer when there weren’t as many people at the mosque.” – <https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/islamic-center-escondido-mosque-epd-efd-sdso-reported-arson-unit-507585851.html>
