Michael Edison Hayden, Intelligence Project // Twitter locked me out of my account for reporting on extremists | Southern Poverty Law Center – The incident, which has since been resolved with an apology from Twitter and the unlocking of my account, underscores the struggles Twitter has had with keeping white supremacists from weaponizing their platform to further an agenda of cruelty.

To be more specific about what happened to me, the social media giant locked me out and also threatened me with a permanent suspension for posting a tweet that demonstrates a connection between an American white supremacist leader, the terrorist who gunned down 50 worshippers including children at two New Zealand mosques in March, and a mysterious fire that recently ravaged a Tennessee-based building linked to the civil rights movement.

Fraser Anning’s Neo-Nazi connections — thewhiterosesociety – Increasingly, the far-right in Australia has been emboldened by politicians who repeat and validate their conspiracies, imagined grievances and talking points about “African gangs”, Asian immigration, nationalism, “Cultural Marxism”, Indigenous peoples, Muslims, and “White Genocide”. Last year we reported on the extent to which some far-right, fascist, and neo-Nazi groups had established relations with politicians from both minor and mainstream parties, including a major infiltration of NSW Young Nationals.

It is now clear that Senator Fraser Anning, the ‘accidental’ senator, is becoming the figurehead for this growing movement.

Our investigation into Senator Fraser Anning reveals a complicated web of links between Anning and players and power brokers on the far-right including neo-Nazi Andrew Wilson.

These neo-Nazis and far-right activists have been attempting to influence the Australian political scene for years. They have used their networks and social media techniques to push Anning’s agenda and popularity. Members of defunct far-right groups such as the Patriotic Youth League, the New Guard, and Klub Nation are still working together behind the scenes to install Anning as the acceptable frontman for Australia’s ethno-nationalist/neo-Nazi movement.

Davis Richardson // Klein’s response came following an inquiry about the Metropolitan Republican Club’s association with the far-right German party, People’s Alternative for Deutschland (AfD). Earlier this year, The Daily Beast published a piece about how the club’s newly elected president Ian Reilly boasted to club members about providing political consultancy to the party—despite AfD’s track record of blowing Hitler dog whistles.

“Last year I founded a consultancy with a friend who is also active in GOP politics. The Yorkville Group is what we called it,” Reilly said during the club’s elections late last year. “It has provided services, not just to statewide candidates like [New York candidate] Jonathan Trichter, but to international political parties like Alternative fur Deutschland.”

The Forward and Josh Nathan-Kazis // Mort Klein stands by ‘filthy Arab’ slur as condemnation grows – U.S. News – Haaretz.com – Facing criticism over his use of the slur “filthy Arab” in a tweet last week, Zionist Organization of America national president Morton Klein repeated the phrase in a voicemail to the Forward — and pointedly refused to back down.

Klein asserted in the lengthy voicemail that he had meant that “Arab murderers are filthy Arabs,” and that he had been referring to the Palestinian killer of Israeli-American Ari Fuld in the offensive tweet, which he has not deleted.

Lizzy Alfs // Airbnb bans users headed to white nationalist conference in Tennessee – The popular vacation rental company confirmed its decision Monday to ban users tied to the annual American Renaissance Conference at the Montgomery Bell State Park Inn & Conference Center.

Airbnb cited its nondiscrimination policy and the “Community Commitment” to which all users must adhere. That includes treating everyone with respect and without judgment or bias, regardless of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age, according to the company.

Candace Owens: White Supremacy Is ‘Nothing More Than an Election Strategy’ // [https://www.thedailybeast.com/candace-owens-white-supremacy-is-nothing-more-than-an-election-strategy] Candace Owens called white supremacy an “election strategy” during a hearing on hate crimes and white nationalism before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Owens, communications director for the right-wing organization Turning Point USA…Owens argued that a congressional hearing on hate crimes and white nationalism should be focused on anti-fascist groups.

Brett Samuels // Trump tweets quote condemning Omar calling Miller a ‘white nationalist’ | TheHill

President Trump on Tuesday hit back at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) after the congresswoman called his senior adviser Stephen Miller a “white nationalist,” sharing a quote from a Fox Business Network guest who condemned Omar’s comments.

“What’s completely unacceptable is for Congresswoman Omar to target Jews. In this case, it’s not just Stephen Miller,” Jeff Ballabon, who advises the president’s campaign, said on “Varney & Co.”

Rowaida Abdelaziz // No. Ilhan Omar Is Not The Steve King Of The Left. | HuffPost – The reaction to Omar’s comments has been loud and unequivocal, but many are concerned it’s unwarranted, and others say that she is an easy target as a black Muslim woman.

Noura Erakat, a human rights lawyer and an assistant professor at George Mason University based in Washington, D.C., said the bipartisan consensus supporting the U.S.- Israeli relationship is inevitably changing. She said that Omar is part of a new class of freshmen members of Congress who are challenging the public discourse.

Studies have shown that young millennials are increasingly distancing themselves from Israel and its policies. Human rights groups have long criticized Israel’s crippling 12-year blockade on the Gaza Strip, as well as the West Bank occupation that they say violates international human rights laws. Erakat also pointed out that the political situation inside Israel is also rapidly transforming, arguably for the worse, as Israel’s current administration has warped into extreme right-wing government.

Katie Shepherd // Man Arrested While Filming Right-Wing Protesters at Patriot Prayer Rally Found Not Guilty of Disobeying Police Orders – Willamette Week – According to a trial brief filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, officers suspected Hacker might be connected to a group of antifascist protesters, or Antifa. Hacker told the agents he wanted to observe and film the Patriot Prayer supporters.

Hacker’s defense relied on videos that contradicted the arresting officer’s account of the event.

“The videos also directly contradicted the testimony of Hacker’s arresting officer who testified that he clearly remembered arresting Hacker—who is 6’3″ with severe facial burn scarring—as Hacker was being escorted out of the rally by Proud Boys in an environment that included a group of black-clad Antifa members with helmets and shields at the entrance of the rally demanding to come in the rally,” Hacker’s lawyer said in a statement. “The video showed that testimony to be grossly wrong. Mr. Hacker never entered the rally. He was never escorted out by Proud Boy members. There was no group of black-clad Antifa members with helmets and shields.”

Dave Rubin. The Useful Idiot Of The Alt-Right – AN SIONNACH FIONN – Despite a few early setbacks he eventually made it to front-of-camera hosting with the online and decidedly left-wing Young Turks Network before striking out on his own with the self-managed Rubin Report. This step saw Rubin undergo what can only be described as a dramatic change of political loyalties, from progressive to libertarian-right, making him one of the young tech-savvy faces of the neo-conservative movement in the United States. Despite this transformation, the LA-based polemicist has continued to proclaim his “classical liberal” credentials: largely based on his past history, a deliberate confusion of terminologies and the rather facile defence conferred by his status as a married gay man.

Catharine Tunney // CSIS dealing with right-wing extremism ‘more and more,’ says spy chief | CBC News – CSIS Director David Vigneault told a Senate committee earlier today that his agency is very troubled by “the number of ultra right-wing extremists” active in Canada, citing the 2017 firearm attack on a Quebec City mosque and a 2018 vehicle-ramming attack in Toronto.

“We are seeing people using the methods of the terrorists to cause harm, and here I refer to the attack in Toronto by someone invoking the philosophy of the involuntary celibates,” said Vigneault in a rare public appearance.

“What was striking is that the philosophy was one thing — the person wanted to cause harm and fear in the population — but he used a technique that had been perfected by terrorists.”
