Last week was a terrible week for journalism as major media companies cut their workforces. According to The Cut, approximately 1,000 workers — editors, writers, etc. — were laid off in a three-day period, with BuzzFeed, HuffPost, and Gannett as the hardest hit.

via ‘Learn To Code’: The Alt-Right’s Latest Anti-Journalist Meme Is Based On A Lie — Angry White Men

Brett Barrouquere // School’s Out | Southern Poverty Law Center – The white nationalists marched across the campus in crisp, white dress shirts and khakis or decked out in all black Dickies and boots, headed under an overcast sky toward protesters clad in a variety of outfits and masks, carrying signs.

Nearby, police in riot gear watched warily and waited for the conflict to start.

The scene, as it played out March 5 at Michigan State University in East Lansing, looked a lot like what happened publicly at other colleges when racist “alt-right” front man Richard Spencer chose to speak on their campus.

Our honorable sacrifices in Syria deserve justice – Even the areas in which Turkey is present suffer from instability, which is what Turkey strives for in Syria. It is no surprise that we find Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan speaking out about the danger of Islamic State, saying that Turkey is the country most capable of effectively fighting the terrorist group, especially given the rest of the world’s silence in the face of Turkey’s support for ISIS and other extremist groups in Syria. That support continues only by virtue of Turkey’s relationships with countries which have the ability to stop it.

ACTION ALERT – Urgent Call for Solidarity Action to Stop Work on #Unistoten Territory – Enough is Enough! – These sites must be assessed by archaeologists and by our own knowledge-keepers before any more destruction takes place. We do not want to find the bones of our ancestors dredged up by CGL bulldozers.

CGL has failed to produce any evidence of archaeological work for their man camp site on Unist’ot’en territory to our Dini’ze and Tsake’ze (Hereditary Chiefs), the BC Oil and Gas Commission, BC Environmental Assessment Office, or the BC Archaeological Branch. They are blatantly violating the conditions of their permits, while regulatory officials and RCMP look on.

The Wet’suwet’en proved in the Delgamuukw-Gisday’wa court case that we have never ceded our lands, that our sovereign rights to these territories have never been extinguished, and that our Dini’ze and Tsake’ze are the Title Holders to our 22,000 square km territory. Our Dini’ze and Tsake’ze are the highest authorities on these lands, and our Anuk Nu’at’en (Wet’suwet’en Law) is the highest law of this land.

Sam Levin // Revealed: FBI investigated civil rights group as ‘terrorism’ threat and viewed KKK as victims | US news | The Guardian – The Bamn case follows numerous recent controversies surrounding the FBI’s targeting of leftist groups, including a terrorism investigation into Standing Rock activists, surveillance of black activists, and spying on peaceful climate change protesters.

The justice department inspector general previously criticized the FBI for using non-violent civil disobedience and speculation of future crimes to justify terrorism investigations against domestic advocacy groups, German noted, adding that the Bamn files suggest the FBI “seems to have learned nothing from these previous overreaches”.

Even knowing the FBI’s legacy of going after activists, the report was still shocking, said Shapiro.

“A bunch of anti-fascists showed up at a Nazi rally and were attacked by Nazis, and the response form the bureau was to launch a domestic terrorism investigation into the anti-fascists,” he said. “At its core, the FBI is, as it has always been, a political police force that primarily targets the left.”

Restaurant bans ‘Make America Great Again’ hats, compares them to white hoods and swastikas – “It hasn’t happened yet, but if you come to my restaurant wearing a MAGA cap, you aren’t getting served, same as if you come in wearing a swastika, white hood, or any other symbol of intolerance and hate,” the San Francisco Chronicle reported Lopez-Alt saying in the tweet Thursday.

The tweet was no longer available Thursday. But the newspaper reported it had more than 2,100 likes and more than 200 retweets as of Wednesday afternoon.

The red hats, which are sold on President Donald Trump’s campaign website, have become polarizing. The hats were worn by some Kentucky high school students involved in a Jan. 18 confrontation with a Native American elder near the Lincoln Memorial.

Jeremy Sharon // Far-right antisemitism biggest threat to Jews worldwide: report – Diaspora – Jerusalem Post – The report also noted that the most violent antisemitic incidents in the US came from far Right elements such as Neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

The report noted that in France, even after a noticeable reduction in antisemitic attacks in the previous year – due to a change in government policies and security deployment – there was a rise of 69% in antisemitic incidents in the year 2018.

And in the United Kingdom, antisemitic incidents reached an all-time high, with antisemitic attitudes and incidents in the Labour Party leading significant numbers of Jews there to express deep concern for the future of their country.

In terms of far Left antisemitism, the ministry’s report noted that such elements tie Jews in with “cosmopolitan elites” and global capitalism which such groups say they are trying to fight.

Emily Shugerman // The Brutal Story of Jake Eakin, Child Murderer Turned Anti-Abortion Zealot – “You are marching for your own personal convenience, your own personal beliefs,” the man bellowed into the amplifier. “But what about the millions of children who have been murdered by abortion since 1973?”

Later, he warned the women they were participants in a “culture of death” and that abortion was a sin.

“The only answer to the sin of murder,” he told them, “is the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Fourteen years ago, that same man—Jake Eakin—was a pale, slick-haired teenager making headlines as the youngest person in modern state history to be tried for murder as an adult. The grisly case, in which Eakin’s autistic classmate was found bludgeoned to death in a park near his home, drew national attention to Spokane and divided the city.
