The real lesson Trump learned from Charlottesville – POLITICO // [https://www.politico.com/story/2018/08/05/trump-charlottesville-republicans-midterms-764348] With Trump back on his annual working vacation at his Bedminster, New Jersey, country club — the same setting he was in during the Charlottesville crisis — the LeBron tweet served as a reminder that the president has done little to ameliorate that low-water mark of Charlottesville as one of the defining images of his presidency.
“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon,” Trump tweeted Friday night, about 24 hours into his vacation. “He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!”
The tweet fueled a new round of critics accusing Trump of being racist, and hearkened back to last August, when Trump stubbornly refused to call out the hate groups that had gathered to protest the removal of a Confederate statue in Charlottesville, instead making a moral equivalency argument between them and a small group of counterprotesters, and blaming “both sides” for the violence.
Ashley Gold // Facebook removes 4 pages owned by InfoWars’ Alex Jones – POLITICO – The pages had been publishing content “glorifying violence, which violates our graphic violence policy, and using dehumanizing language to describe people who are transgender, Muslims and immigrants, which violates our hate speech policies,” Facebook said. The company previously removed several videos from the four pages and suspended Jones from the platform for 30 days.
Facebook has drawn fire in recent weeks for letting Jones stay on the platform, even though he’s a well-known conspiracy theorist who famously called the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting a hoax. On Sunday, Apple removed Alex Jones podcasts and episodes from iTunes and the Podcast app.
Jason Wilson // As they moved on the counterprotest, Patriot Prayer marchers chanted “lock them up, lock them up”.
Portland police sent hundreds of officers in riot gear to the rally, and for most of the day they kept Patriot Prayer, led by Republican US Senate candidate Joey Gibson, separated from their opposition.
One part of the 1,000 strong counterprotest, billed as “PopMob”, included labor groups, a local Democratic Socialists of America chapter, clergy, community groups. There was also a large contingent of anti-fascists clad in “black bloc” clothing.
As the Patriot Prayer group marched, protesters followed at a distance through neighbouring streets. The charge happened on Southwest Columbia Street, several blocks south of Patriot Prayer’s original rallying point. Police claimed that protesters were throwing missiles at their lines.
One journalist, Eder Campuzano, was struck in the head by a full plastic bottle, causing him to bleed from a head wound, which he said “likely came from a counterprotester”.
A Portland photographer, Doug Brown, said that “the first missile I saw and heard came from the Patriot Prayer side, across the street, towards the protesters”.
“I don’t know who set it off, but it went towards the black bloc. And then the police just swarmed them,” Brown said.
Brown’s tweeted video of the police charge shows them confronting protesters en masse, and attacking him and and other reporters filming from a sidewalk.
Blair Cottrell: Sky News admits interview was ‘wrong’ – The interview conducted on Sunday evening by Sky host and former Northern Territory Country Liberal Party chief minister Adam Giles sparked outrage cross social media.
It was also criticised by two high profile Sky hosts, David Speers and Laura Jayes.

“His views do not reflect ours. The interview has been removed from repeat timeslots and online platforms.”
Sky news presenter Jayes branded Mr Cottrell “just an a*sehole” while political editor David Speers tweeted he “100%” agreed with Jayes.
Dinesh D’Souza’s Pro-Trump Doc ‘Death of a Nation’ Box Office – Variety – In his review of “Death of a Nation,”Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman says, “Dinesh D’Souza goes over the top — of hate, and of truth — in his latest documentary, a radical-right screed that equates liberalism with Nazism.” He adds, “Dinesh D’Souza is no longer preaching to the choir; he’s preaching to the mentally unsound.”
Though the doc currently holds a 0% on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, it has generated some positive sentiment among conservatives. “This film is a great reminder about what the left really stands for and why conservatives must never stop fighting for freedom and liberty,” Stephanie Hamill, a journalist with right-wing publication the Daily Caller, wrote on Twitter.
Christi Carras // Dinesh D’Souza, Donald Trump Jr. to Host ‘Death of a Nation’ Screening – Variety – Director Dinesh D’Souza and Donald Trump Jr. will co-host the Washington, D.C. premiere of “Death of a Nation” on Wednesday, D’Souza told Variety.
While D’Souza says President Donald Trump has yet to see the controversial film, which compares the president to Abraham Lincoln and Democrats to Nazis, the D.C. screening is expected to attract members of the White House staff, cabinet, and the senate.
“We don’t know exactly who is going to show up, but certainly lots of D.C. V.I.P.s will be there,” D’Souza told Variety at the Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday. ” We’ve invited White House staff, and we know that some cabinet members are coming, some senators are coming — even though congress is not in session right now. But we’ll get a good crowd.”
Tamara Khandaker // Canada is using ancestry DNA websites to help it deport people – VICE News – “I think it is a matter of public interest that border service agencies like the CBSA are able to obtain access to DNA results from sites like Familytreedna.com and Ancestry.com,” said Subodh Bharati, a lawyer who is representing a man who says he’s Liberian, but who the government is now trying to prove is actually Nigerian. “There are clear privacy concerns. How is the CBSA able to access this information and what measures are being put in place to ensure this information remains confidential?”
Bharati, who is representing his client through CLASP, the legal aid clinic at Osgoode Hall Law School, said he is aware of at least two individuals who used Familytreedna.com, one in the UK, who have been contacted by the CBSA seeking to deport someone from Canada.
FLASHBACK: WikiLeaks outreach to Trump Jr. may have had Charles Johnson help – Business Insider //
Charles Johnson, who calls himself an independent journalist and runs a site called GotNews, published an article at about 9:30 p.m. ET on September 20, 2016, claiming he had “obtained a memo from a George Soros-tied PR firm that is launching a website to spread conspiracy theories about Donald Trump’s connections to Russia.” Soros is the investor and business magnate who has become a favorite bogeyman of the far right .
“The site, PutinTrump.org , is set to be launched tomorrow morning on Wednesday, September 21, by public relations firm Ripple Strategies,” Johnson wrote.
Johnson updated his article again to include the password for PutinTrump.org, which was still locked. He said he had obtained it from “GotNews researchers.”

Portland police could be seen using grenade launchers to fire the canisters that tore through the air and exploded above protesters’ heads hundreds of feet away.

Professional Left’s Professional Pimp Julian Assange Comes Out as Far Right Extremist — The People’s View // In fact, it is from this rejection of the common good that their opposition to legitimate intelligence operations comes from. There is no inkling to check whether the intelligence operations are needed, proper, or legal, because the simple fact that the government is conducting it at all makes it evil.
And this is to say nothing of the fact that the objects of Assange’s admiration, Rand and Ron Paul, are nothing short of modern day KKK when it comes to their palpable racism. Ron Paul’s newsletter in 1992 claimed that “we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in [Washington, DC] are semi-criminal or entirely criminal.” This and other racist newsletters of Ron Paul are legendary.
Rand Paul continues to defend a racist who is on his Congressional payroll to this day, and that is hardly distinctive among the ample evidence of Rand Paul’s ties with racists. Not only does Rand Paul have ties with racists, he is one. He is someone who has openly opposed the portion of the Civil Rights Act that bars public businesses from discriminating on the base of race or nationality.
