Offensive image, quick backlash bring swift end to Mankato commemorative rifle – Twin Cities – American Legacy Firearms produces beautiful rifles with intricate designs depicting historical scenes. They produce rifles for towns across the country, doing research on those towns to include relevant events. The rifles are then marketed to those towns through the media, which is how that glossy ad found its way to my bagel plate.
The Mankato Heritage Rifle is a sight to behold. So intricately carved, I’d be afraid to use it for fear of ruining its stunning good looks. And at roughly $2,000, it ain’t cheap.
The Mankato Brick and Tile Co., the Henrietta steamboat and Henry Jackson are all depicted on the rifle. It mentions fur traders, the term “Key City,” and the fact that Minnesota is the North Star state.
Then there’s the noose.
And that’s where I was stopped in my tracks. It shows a noose, at a slight angle to suggest it might be a swinging noose, next to the words “Dakota Conflict.”
