In addition to a June 17 email in which he called Donald Trump a “national disgrace” and an “international pariah,” Powell also attacked Trump in an email on August 21 for being one of the leaders of the “racist” “birther” movement, which falsely claims President Obama wasn’t born in the United States. In another email, Powell also called Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz “idiots,” writing, “They are idiots and spent force peddling a book that ain’t going nowhere.” The email was a reference to the Cheneys’ book “Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America.”

Colin Powell Confirms Leaked E-Mails Are ‘Accurate,’ Warns More Are Coming : — A separate 13 September 2016 BuzzFeed article focused on multiple criticisms levied by Powell about Donald Trump via e-mail:

[Powell] slammed GOP nominee Donald Trump as a “a national disgrace” and an “international pariah” … [those] remarks came in a June 17, 2016, email to Emily Miller, a journalist who was once Powell’s aide. In that same email Powell also said Trump “is in the process of destroying himself, no need for Dems to attack him. [Speaker of the House] Paul Ryan is calibrating his position again.”

In an Aug. 21 email from Powell to Miller, he blasted Trump for embarking on a “racist” movement that believes President Obama was not born in the US.

“Yup, the whole birther movement was racist,” Powell wrote. “That’s what the 99% believe. When Trump couldn’t keep that up he said he also wanted to see if the certificate noted that he was a Muslim.”

Colin Powell told  BuzzFeed he was “not denying” the authenticity of leaked e-mails, reiterating the statement to NBC News and cryptically cautioning that the parties responsible “have a lot more.”

Colin Powell Urged Hillary Clinton’s Team Not to Scapegoat Him for Her Private Server, Leaked Emails Reveal – [ / Lee Fang, Naomi LaChance] –

“Sad thing,” Powell wrote to one confidant, “HRC could have killed this two years ago by merely telling everyone honestly what she had done and not tie me to it.”

“I told her staff three times not to try that gambit. I had to throw a mini tantrum at a Hampton’s [sic] party to get their attention. She keeps tripping into these ‘character’ minefields,” Powell lamented. He noted that he had tried to settle the matter by meeting with Clinton aide Cheryl Mills in August.

Powell’s private messages were leaked by, an anonymously managed website that shares hacked emails from U.S. military and political figures. DCLeaks has a relationship with Guccifer 2.0, a hacker that many allege to have ties with Russian intelligence. DCLeaks provided access to Powell’s emails to a number of reporters on Tuesday.

The emails show Powell regularly corresponding with reporters and friends about the Clinton email server scandal, explaining that his situation was different. When Powell arrived at the State Department, the information technology system was badly dated, he argued. And unlike Clinton, Powell never set up a private server. Instead, he used his personal AOL account, on a server maintained by AOL, and used a government computer for classified communications.
