A Nigger Is Still A Nigger  –  John Harris III

We’ve seen wars on drugs and wars and on poverty, but what sense does it make to use tyranny as the way to treat a community hurt by issues of poverty and oppression? The same tax dollars we use to fund a military society implemented by police officers would be better used funding mentoring programs. I guess it’s better to “let them know who’s boss” than to actually help people. But hey, what do I know? I’m just a Black man who gets a $1 Arizona Rx Energy from the corner-story every day. I’m a menace to society. I’ve smoked marijuana and worn baggy clothes. I guess it doesn’t matter that I graduated Summa Cum Laude from a prestigious university or that I work every day to help the homeless people that the District of Columbia allows itself to have (there’s no logical reason for homelessness, but that’s another post). In the eyes of America I am a thug and justice for me being chased down in my gentrifying community would be my killer being freed for acting as a vigilante. My killer would have been fighting the villain (a violent Black man) and the villain would have died in combat while the vigilante was defending himself. That is what my country told me yesterday. The more things change, the more they stay the same. A nigger is still a nigger.
